New Delhi: Due to the pandemic Bollywood fans had to make do with online releases of films as safety protocols dictated social distancing. But now in a big relief for fans, the rumours about the films Sooryavanshi and Kabir Khan's 83 came out to be true and cinema chains have confirmed that the films will have will be released in cinema later this year.

According to media reports the Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif starrer Sooryavanshi which is directed by Rohit Shetty will not be released in OTT platforms. Instead, a Diwali release has been planned for the film which will see Kumar donning the role of a cop. The film also stars Jackie Shroff, Gulshan Grover, Abhimanyu Singh, Niharica Raizada, Sikandar Kher and Nikitin Dheer.

Similarly, Kabir Khan directorial venture 83 which is about India’s first Cricket World Cup win will see a theatrical release and is scheduled for Christmas. In the film, Ranveer Singh will play the role of Kapil Dev who was the captain of the Indian cricket team in 1983. The film will also see Deepika Padukone playing Kapil's wife Romi Dev. It also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Saqib Saleem, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Harrdy Sandhu, Ammy Virk, Jiiva, Sahil Khattar, Chirag Patil and Adinath Kothare in key roles.

Both the films were supposed to have March release but were postponed indefinitely due to the nationwide lockdown.

Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh had announced the news on his Twitter page.

The news comes after Disney+ Hotstar announced that the streaming platform will be premiering seven major Bollywood films over the next few months. These are the Akshay Kumar-starrer "Laxmmi Bomb", Ajay Devgn's "Bhuj: The Pride Of India", "Sadak 2" starring Alia Bhatt, Sushant Singh Rajput's last film "Dil Bechara", "The Big Bull" starring Abhishek Bachchan, Vidyut Jammwal-starrer "Khuda Haafiz" and "Lootcase" featuring Kunal Kemmu.
