New Delhi:  Actor Siddharth has had to bear the brunt of his sexist tweet against Olympic medalist badminton player Saina Nehwal. A case was registered against Siddharth by the Cybercrime wing of Hyderabad Police over his controversial tweet against Saina Nehwal, police said on Wednesday.

Based on a complaint lodged by a woman in Hyderabad against Siddharth over his remarks online against the badminton player, the case was registered against the actor under IPC Section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of women) and under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act, a senior police official told PTI.

In lieu of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's security breach in Punajb, Saina had tweeted that she condemns the cowardly attack on the PM by anarchists. Saina wrote,"No nation can claim itself to be safe if the security of its own PM gets compromised. I condemn in the strongest words possible, the cowardly attack on PM Modi by anarchists.

Replying to her tweet, actor Siddharth who is known to be quite vocal about his opinions, commented,"Subtle cock champion of the world....Thank god we have protectors of India."

Siddharth was badly bashed for his misogynistic comment on the national level sports star, with the National Commission for Women (NCW) asking Twitter India to "immediately" block the actor's account.

He later issued an apology where he mentioned that it was a rude joke and that no matter how much he disagrees with her opinion on the security breach issue, it cannot justify his tone and words.

Take a look at the apology here:

Saina Nehwal on Wednesday said she is happy that Siddharth issued a public apology for his unsavoury remarks on her after she raised concerns about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's security breach recently. Saina said she is glad he acknowledged that.
