New Delhi: Politics has intensified in Uttar Pradesh a few weeks ahead of the polls and according to the latest development, the BJP's main opposition Akhilesh Yadav led Samajwadi Party has decided the seat-sharing formula with Rashtriya Lok Dal.

According to ABP News sources, both the parties have come together to dethrone Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and defeat the Bhartiya Janta Party in the state. Sources also said that 6 SP Leaders may contest the UP polls under RLD's election symbol.

This comes after Akhilesh Yadav and Jayant Chaudhary discussed their strategy over the phone on Monday night and agreed to the seat-sharing formula.

The two leaders had met in Lucknow in November to give a final shape of their alliance and after the meeting, both had put out tweets confirming the finalisation of the poll partnership.

The SP allying with the RLD is seen to be Akhilesh Yadav's effort to win more seats in western Uttar Pradesh having around 67 assembly seats.

Most of these seats are with the BJP presently, but the SP-RLD together wish to change the equation in 2022 state polls particularly in the wake of farmers' agitation against three farm laws.

Western UP has a sizeable population of farmers and people from there had participated in the agitation against farm laws on Delhi borders.

Deriving its legacy from former "kisan" Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh, RLD claims support among the farmers in the region.

Uttar Pradesh will go to poll in 7 phases from 10th Feb to 7th March, the Elections Commission announced today.

The first phase will begin on February 10, second on February 14, third on February 20, fourth on February 23, fifth on February 27.
The final two phases will happen in March. The sixth phase on March 3 and the final phase on March 7.

All polling will end by March 7, 2022 and votes will be counted on March 10, 2022.
