New Delhi: Top leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a meeting on Tuesday, at the party's national headquarters in New Delhi, deliberating candidates for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly elections 2022. The meeting reportedly lasted for 10 hours.


Various aspects related to the election strategy were discussed in the meeting of the BJP Core Committee, official sources told news agency ANI


The outline of the future programs of the election campaign, in view of the Election Commission's order banning rallies, roadshows, and other programs till January 15, was also discussed during the meeting.


Union Home Minister Amit Shah and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath joined the meeting. Other prominent leaders who attended the meeting included UP Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, State BJP President Swatantra Dev Singh.


BJP Uttar Pradesh poll in-charge Dharmendra Pradhan, BJP UP General Secretary Sunil Bansal, and National General Secretary BL Santhosh were also part of the meeting while BJP President JP Nadda attended the meeting virtually.


BJP Core Committee Meeting 


Amit Shah conducted a sector-wise review of six areas during the meeting. He also took feedback from the regional in-charges about the ground reality of the state, news agency ANI reported.

 

In a separate meeting with some leaders, Amit Shah spoke to the party leaders about the election strategy and the current ups and downs in the party, according to media reports.

 

The seats of Western Uttar Pradesh, as well as the seats of the first and second phases, were also discussed. The meeting will resume from 11 am on Wednesday.

 

The names of the candidates considered in Tuesday's meeting will be placed before the Central Election Committee on Thursday for final approval from the top leadership.

 

On Monday, the BJP's 24-member Uttar Pradesh Election Committee met in Lucknow and deliberated on the names of probable candidates for the 113 constituencies that will go to the polls in the first two phases.

 

The Assembly Elections beginning on February 10 will be held in seven phases in Uttar Pradesh, the Election Commission said. Polling in UP will be held on February 10, 14, 20, 23, 27, and March 3 and 7. Votes will be counted on March 10.
