BRS leader and departing Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao's son KT Rama Rao poked fun at himself after losing to the Congress in the state elections today. Less than 24 hours earlier, a confident KT Rama Rao shared a photo of himself shooting a rifle with the caption: "Hattrick Loading 3.0. Get ready to celebrate guys." However, as early trends emerged this morning, the Congress stunned the BRS in the southern state, establishing a lead in the majority of the seats. The Congress, encouraged by the results, retweeted KTR's tweet and asked, "Were you aiming for car tyres?" In case you're wondering, the BRS poll sign is an automobile.
After Congress consolidated its position, KTR on his official X handle stated: "This one ain’t gonna age well 😁 Missed the mark."
After accepting defeat, he stated: "Grateful to the people of Telangana for giving BRS two consecutive terms of government. Not saddened over the result today, but surely disappointed as it was not in the expected lines for us. But we will take this in our stride as a learning and will bounce back. Congratulations to the Congress on winning the mandate. Wishing you good luck."
The Congress ended K Chandrashekar Rao's dream reign by taking a commanding lead in the state.
The Telangana Rashtra Samithi, currently known as the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, had spearheaded Telangana's statehood effort and had received continuous support for a decade after the state was formed out of Andhra Pradesh in 2014.
The move has been linked in part to charges of corruption levelled against Rao and other party leaders. PM Modi's huge disclosure that Rao attempted to join the NDA but was rejected may have contributed to this.
