Amid the ongoing row over reservations which kickstarted following Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's allegations on the Bharatiya Janata Party that it will scrap reservations and change the Constitution, Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav also took a dig at PM Modi saying that on one hand the PM honoured Karpoori Thakur with Bharat Ratna but opposes his views on the contrary.
Yadav said: "PM Modi lacks information. He honoured Karpoori Thakur with Bharat Ratna, but PM Modi is opposing his views. When Karpoori Thakur became the Chief Minister for the first time, all the socially backward castes, irrespective of their religion, got reservation for the first time. Is it right to call Karpoori Thakur's decision wrong?..."
Bihar government in 1970 appointed the Mungeri Lal Commission, which released a report in February 1976, naming 128 “backward” communities, out of which 94 were identified as “most backward”.
Karpoori Thakur's Janata Party government implemented the recommendations of the Commission, releasing the 'Karpoori Thakur Formula'.
The formula provided 26% reservation model in Bihar. Out of this OBCs got a 12% share, the economically backward classes among them got 8%, the poor from the “upper castes” got 3%, and women got 3% in the state's government jobs.
Amit Shah Quashes Rahul Gandhi's Reservation Allegations On BJP
Earlier on Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed Gandhi's claims and said that he was "spreading lies in the name of the backward classes".
Rahul Gandhi had said in a rally that if BJP won 400 seats, it will remove reservations in India.
Quashing these claims, Shah said, "I will give you a Modi Guarantee that the SC, ST, and OBC reservation will neither be removed by the BJP nor will we let anyone else do that.
PM Modi, while addressing a poll rally in Zaheerabad Lok Sabha constituency in Telangana, hit back at the Congress over their claims saying, "As long as Modi is alive, I will not let reservations of Dalits, Adivasis, OBC to be given to Muslims on the basis of religion.
RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav claimed that BJP will witness shocking results in Bihar and said: "I am telling this... they don't have any idea sitting in Delhi. Things have gone wrong for the BJP. I have been saying this...Bihar will give a shocking result and it will happen," says RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav
