Samajwadi Party leader and Actor Swara Bhaskar’s husband Fahad Ahmad has joined Shrad Pawar's NCP (SP) on Sunday, party leader Jayant Patil said.

Ahmad will contest the Maharashtra Assembly Polls and will fight the Anushakti Nagar seat against Sana Malik of NCP, Patil said.

"Samajwadi Party leader and Actor Swara Bhaskar’s husband Fahad Ahmad joined NCP-SCP. He has been fielded from the Anushakti Nagar seat against Sana Malik of NCP (Ajit Pawar)," NCP (SP) leader Jayant Patil said.

"Ahmad is a well-educated young Muslim youth and has worked as an activist across the country. People want us to give a chance to such leaders. He was in the Samajwadi Party earlier but we had talks with SP and he came to our party. We gave him a ticket from our party from the Anushakti Nagar constituency," the NCP (SP) leader added.

Speaking on his contest from the Anushakti Nagar seat, Fahad Ahmad said "The roots of Samajwadi Party and NCP-SCP are connected with 'Samajwad'...The public has been waiting for elections in Maharashtra to get rid of the current government. Samajwadi Party and NCP-SCP are like families. There is a very strong relationship between Mulayam Singh Yadav and Sharad Pawar & Supriya Sule and Akhilesh Yadav."

The announcement comes shortly after Samajwadi Party announced that the party would contest the elections in at least 20 seats in the state after the seat-sharing talks with Maha Vikas Aghadi's (MVA) failed to arrive at any conclusion. Earlier, Fahad Ahmad was expected to contest the elections on the Samajwadi Party ticket.
