New Delhi: Actor-turned-politician Sunny Deol will file his nomination today from the significant Gurdaspur parliamentary constituency in Punjab, as a BJP candidate for the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. Ahead of filing the papers, Deol visited the Golden Temple in Amritsar.

While filing nomination, Deol will be accompanied by Kavita Khanna, wife of former Gurdaspur MP late Vinod Khanna, and Union Minister Jitendra Singh, the BJP said.

Deol on Sunday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Modi appreciated Deol's "humility and deep sense of passion for a better India".

"Happy to have met him today. We are all rooting for his victory in Gurdaspur".

“We both agree - Hindustan zindabad tha, hai aur rahega,” the Prime Minister had tweeted along with a picture.


Deol joined the BJP on April 22 and was fielded from Gurdaspur. The actor is pitted against Congress leader Sunil Jakhar, Aam Aadmi Party's Peter Masih and Punjab Democratic Alliance's Lal Chand.

Gurdaspur parliamentary constituency was earlier represented by actor Vinod Khanna who won from here four times - 1998, 1999, 2004 and 2014 - on a BJP ticket

Earlier in the day, the PM met new mayors of south, north and east Delhi municipal corporations.
