AAP leader and candidate Satyendar Jain has lost the Delhi elections from Shakur Basti as he was defeated by BJP candidate Karnail Singh.
According to the Election Commission website, Karnail Singh won with 20998 votes margin. Singh secured 56,869 votes but Satyendar Jain bagged 35871 votes. Meanwhile, Congress candidate Satish Kumar Luthra managed to bag just 5784 votes.
The counting for 70 constituency seats in the Delhi Assembly began on Saturday, February 8 at 8 AM. Shakur Basti is a general seat not reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs).

The defeat came as a shock as Satyendar Jain was the sitting MLA from the Shakur Basti seat and was looking forward to a fourth term this time. The Aam Aadmi Party has faced a massive setback in the Delhi Assembly elections as top leaders including Arvind Kejriwal, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Manish Sisodia faced defeat in their respective seats.
According to the Election Commission website, BJP is leading on 23 seats and has won on 11 seats. AAP on the other hand is leading on 24 seats and won 12, as per the data at 15:15 PM.
AAP leaders Anil Jha (Kirari), Mukesh Kumar Ahlawat (Sultanpur Majra), Som Dutt (Sadar Bazar), Punardep Singh (Chandni Chowk), Imran Hussain (Ballimaran), Jarnail Singh (Tilak Nagar), Virender Singh Kadian (Delhi Cantt), Sahi Ram, Kuldeep Kumar (Kondli), Gopal Rai (Babarpur), and Chaudhary Zubair Ahmad (Seelampur) are some of the AAP leaders who have won the Delhi polls.
Meanwhile, BJP workers have been celebrating outside party office after its thumping victory. The BJP will now form the government in Delhi after 26 years.
