JODHPUR: Senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday urged party workers and people to stay united against the rival BJP in the upcoming Assembly elections. He asked them to vote for Congress candidates even if they find them among his critics. Gehlot said seeking any post is not his priority as the party has given him a lot. "The Congress gave me everything. I was elected for the first time in 1980 and remained chief minister for two terms (1998-2003 and 2008-2013). Now my aim is to keep the party's flag flying at the top. Even if you find my critics getting tickets, do vote for them," he said.
Gehlot, while addressing a gathering of party workers here, attacked the Centre and state's Vasundhara Raje government and accused them of wasting people's fund and not doing anything for Rajasthan.
Gehlot is now the AICC general secretary and is in-charge of the organisation. He is locked in the race for chief ministership with Pilot. The Congress has not yet declared a chief ministerial candidate for the state, where it is gearing up to dethrone the Vasundhara Raje-led BJP government. Rajasthan has traditionally not re-elected any party to power.
The 200-member Rajasthan assembly will vote on December 7 along with Telangana.
