New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Jeevan Jyot Kaur is leading in Amritsar East constituency, according to an update by the Election Commission of India (INC). Jeevan Jyot contested from Amritsar East in the assembly elections in Punjab.


She is ahead of the Indian National Congress’ Navjot Singh Sidhu, and Shiromani Akali Dal’s Bikram Majithia in that constituency.






Jeevan Jyot is a social activist, and is popularly nicknamed as the ‘Padwoman of Punjab’. She has made it her life goal to create awareness and educate the less privileged women about the ill-effects of using plastic sanitary pads, a post on the official instagram account of IPL team Punjab Kings said. 




Jeevan Jyot has also tied up with a Swiss based company that provides reusable sanitary pads free of cost to these rural women, according to the post.


She is also the founder of the Sri Hemkunt Education (S.H.E.) Society society, an organisation that has been working for the welfare of poor and disadvantaged people of the community. 


The organisation has been working extensively in the field of literacy and education, health, slum-rehabilitation, vocational education, women empowerment and many more social causes. 


As per latest trends, the AAP is leading in 89 seats in Punjab, and has crossed the majority-mark. Meanwhile, the Congress, SAD, and BJP are leading in 14, nine, and four seats respectively, as per latest trends.
