New Delhi: In an attack launched by Congress state unit chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, he said "people at the top" want a weak chief minister which later on his statement was being unnecessarily twisted, according to his aide.


While Addressing his supporters, Sidhu lashed out at the Congress high command, claiming that "they want a CM who can dance to his tune". 


"People at the top want a weak chief minister who can dance to their tune," said Sidhu.






Later, his aide clarified that he referred to the central government in his statements and not the Congress leadership, according to the sources quoted by PTI.


Congress will announce its CM face for the upcoming assembly elections on 6 February.


Sidhu's statement came after Congress sources had told PTI a day ago that Channi may be declared as the chief ministerial face of Congress.


In recent days, both Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Sidhu have straightforwardly or in a roundabout way put forth a defense for themselves to be announced as the party's chosen one for the top post.


While addressing his supporters and workers after returning from Mata Vaishno Devi in Jammu and Kashmir, Sidhu also targeted SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia, who is battling against the Congress chief from Amritsar East.


Sidhu erupted at the SAD for its supposed mismanagement and "looting" the state other than "patronising criminals".


They laid out a "goonda raj", he affirmed.


Taking on AAP public convenor Arvind Kejriwal, he found out if he was giving Rs 1,000 every month to each woman over 18 years old in the national capital, a promise the Delhi CM made in Punjab.


"What is his stand on the SYL. He must clarify," said Sidhu the Sutlej-Yamuna link canal.


He said in the last Assembly races individuals had shown AAP the mirror and even then Kejriwal's desire was to become the chief minister here.


Assaulting the Delhi CM, he said he needs to go through the controller from Delhi.


"I have to say one thing that if a new Punjab has to be made, it is in the hands of the chief minister," said Sidhu, while adding two previous chief ministers of Punjab pushed the state backwards.


"You have to choose the CM this time. If you make an honest person sit at the top, then honesty will percolate down below," said Sidhu.


Sidhu then, at that point, made a notice of Singapore's previous Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, saying he made Singapore world's critical economy on the planet.

The cricketer-turned-politician then, at that point, changed gears and said individuals at the top need a weak CM who can dance to their tune.

"Sidhu will become X (former), Chief Ministers will become X one day, all of us will become X one day when we leave this body. But the Congress worker will never become X," he said, calling the party workers backbone of the party.


Taking on Majithia, Sidhu said he has raised large hoardings in the Amritsar East.


"He thinks by putting up these boards, he has become a big don. If you have to put up boards, put them like Sidhu--in the hearts of people," he said.
