Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday reacted to the road accident in Pune where a 17-year-old boy killed two IT professionals with his speeding luxury car allegedly under the influence of alcohol.
The minor was granted bail hours after the incident under the condition that he would work with the Yerwada traffic police for 15 days and write a 300-word essay on road accidents.
"If the bus driver, truck driver, Ola, Uber and auto driver mistakenly kills anyone, then they get a jail term for 10 years and their keys are thrown. But a 16-17-year-old son of a rich family rides a Porche under the influence of alcohol and kill two people, then he is told to write an essay," Rahul Gandhi said in a video message on X.
The car, a Porsche, allegedly driven by the boy, who the police claim was drunk at the time of the accident, fatally knocked down two motorbike-borne software engineers in the Kalyani Nagar area of Pune city in the early hours of Sunday, according to police.

He further questioned "Why don't truck drivers, bus drivers, auto drivers or Uber drivers get to write essays."
He further attacked Narendra Modi government by saying "When the prime minister was asked that two Indias were being made- of the rich and of the billionaires. He (Modi) replies whether he should make everyone poor."
He added that the question is of justice and both the poor and the rich should get justice.
Earlier on Tuesday, the father of the 17-year-old boy was placed under arrest hours after he was detained from central Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar town.
According to the FIR lodged in connection with the crash, the man, despite knowing his son did not have a valid driving licence, gave him the car, thus endangering the latter's life. He also allowed his son to party despite knowing that he consumes liquor.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis have called for stringent action in the case of a car accident, Pune police chief said on Tuesday.
The two deceased - Anish Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, both 24-year-old IT professionals and hailing from Madhya Pradesh - died on Sunday after the motorcycle was hit by a speeding Porsche car in Pune. While Ashwini hailed from Jabalpur in MP, Anish came from Birsinghpur Pali in Umaria district of the state.
