Wayanad Lok Sabha Bypolls: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who is currently campaigning for the upcoming Wayanad bypolls in Kerala, met her political rival LDF's Sathyan Mokeri on Thursday. Priyanka Gandhi is set to make her electoral debut as the United Democratic Front candidate in the Wayanad Lok Sabha bypolls slated to be held on November 13.

On the last day of her second leg of bypoll campaign, Priyanka Gandhi bumped into her LDF opponent while campaigning. She went up to him to greet him and shook hands with him as she spoke to him briefly.

Unlike her colleagues Rahul Mamkootathil and his mentor Shafi Parambil, who sparked a controversy after refusing to shake hands with their Palakkad Assembly byelection rival and LDF candidate P Sarin, Priyanka Gandhi showcased political civility as she greeted her opponent and wished him luck for the upcoming polls.

Following this, the CPI (M) candidate Sarin had started a "handshake campaign" to highlight how his rivals Mamkootathil decided not to shake hands with him at the marriage function they had met. Sarin said the campaign was not a protest but a way to ask Palakkad's people whether Mamkootathil's action was something that could be followed, PTI reported.

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Thursday said during her campaign that her sentiments about serving the people of the hill constituency are similar to those of a mother towards her children.

She said that she would fight for the people of Wayanad not only in the Parliament, but on every other platform if she is given a chance.  The Congress leader also spoke about the love her brother and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has for Wayanad as she urged the people to vote for her.

Priyanka Gandhi further reiterated her accusations against the BJP-led Centre, stating that their politics has harmed small business owners and farmers in the country.
