Pappu Yadav, the Independent candidate from Purnea in Bihar, on Monday made a controversial statement a day ahead of the counting for Lok Sabha elections, saying there will be 'Mahabharata' if there is no transparency in counting.

The remark comes hours ahead of the scheduled results on all the 543 seats including Purnea where the counting of votes will begin on June 4 at 8 am.

"We want to cooperate with the Collector and official, the counting should be transparent otherwise 'marta kya na karta'. 'Agar zabardasti loktantra ki maut hogi, toh Mahabharata ka sangram hoga'," Pappu Yadav said in a press conference, according to ANI.

He also urged all the workers in Purney and Bihar to come ready to die tomorrow saying, "Kafan Bandh ke aaye."

In the video, shared by ANI, Pappu Yadav was heard questioning only the the postal ballots shouldn't be counted before the EVM ballot.

He urged the candidates and workers of the INDIA bloc to get the counting of postal ballots done in their presence to avoid any discrepancy.

"Get the counting of postal ballots done in front of you and get their signatures. Whenever they announce the results, but you don't let them go away with postal ballots without their signatures," Pappu Yadav said.

Pappu Yadav is engaged in a triangular contest in the Purnea Lok Sabha constituency where Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has pitched Bima Bharati and the Janata Dal (United) has repeated Santosh Kushwaha from this seat.
