Guwahati: While several candidates contesting the Meghalaya Assembly elections are 'crorepatis', Congress state chief Vincent H Pala has emerged as the richest among them. Several of these rich candidates are owners of luxury cars and exotic watches worth over lakhs.


As per his election affidavit, Vincent H Pala, who will contest the assembly elections from the Sutnga-Saipung constituency, owns a Rolex watch that costs Rs 8 lakh. In addition, he owns four iPhones worth Rs 5 lakh and owns seven vehicles.


The total declared value of Pala’s moveable assets is Rs 1.16 crore. On the other hand, Pala’s wife’s moveable assets are worth Rs 1.32 crore. Pala also owns several plots of agricultural and residential land which amounts to Rs 91.25 crore. His wife also owns land valued at Rs 32.05 crore.  


On the list of the richest candidates, Pala is followed by United Democratic Party (UDP) President, Metbah Lyngdoh, who will contest the polls from the Mairang constituency of the hill state.


The total value of Lyngdoh’s moveable assets, as declared by him in the election affidavit is Rs 11.24 crore while his wife owns moveable assets worth Rs 76.24 crore.


In addition to these, Lyngdoh’s total current market value of immovable assets is Rs 10.31 crore while the total current market value of his wife’s immovable assets is Rs 48.50 crore.


He also has a total savings of Rs 1.88 crore besides bank fixed deposits with a current value of Rs 2.89 crore. On the other hand, his wife has a total savings of Rs 5.26 crore while she maintains bank fixed deposits with a current value of Rs 3.58 crore.


Moreover, the UDP chief owns as many as 10 cars worth Rs 82.30 lakh while his wife owns a whopping 37 vehicles with a market value of Rs 3.34 crore. The husband-wife duo also owns several plots of agricultural and residential land in the state.


Other than Pala and Lyngdoh, there are many “crorepati” candidates, which include ministers from the ruling National People's Party (NPP).


As per the election affidavit filed by the state cabinet minister and NPP candidate James PK Sangma, the total value of his movable assets is Rs 15.69 crore.  


Sangma owns four Porsche cars which include a Mercedes Benz worth Rs 1.26 crore and an Audi Q7 priced at Rs 81 lakh.


On the other hand, he has cash in hand of Rs 7.39 lakh while the present market value of his immovable assets is Rs 4.48 crore. He also owns four agricultural lands and two residential buildings.


Sangma’s wife’s moveable assets are valued at Rs 16.57 crore while the current market value of her immovable assets is Rs 16.28 crore. She also owns a total of 11 agricultural lands and has bank fixed deposits and mutual fund investments worth Rs 1.02 crore and Rs 1.14 crore respectively. She also has three insurance policies worth Rs 1.05 crore.


State cabinet minister Sniawbhalang Dhar is another “crorepati” candidate in the fray this election. Dhar has a total value of moveable assets amounting to Rs 80.85 lakh while his wife has moveable assets of Rs 19.18 crore. She also owns as many as 38 cars.


The present market value of the cabinet minister’s lands is Rs 8.15 crore while his wife possesses 11 non-agricultural lands and four residential buildings worth Rs 16.63 crore.


Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, who is contesting the Assembly elections from the South Tura constituency on an NPP ticket has total moveable assets worth Rs 1.16 crore while his wife has a moveable asset worth Rs 2.80 crore.


Sangma also owns four plots of agricultural land, three residential buildings, and a plot of non-agricultural land. The present market value of all these properties amounts to Rs 6.20 crore. His wife also owns two plots of non-agricultural land and a couple of residential buildings which have a current market value of Rs 4.13 crore.


Former Congressman, who joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in 2021, Mukul Sangma’s moveable assets are worth Rs 2.29 crore while his wife owns moveable assets valued at Rs 3.45 crore.


The former state Chief Minister owns a total of four vehicles. Sangma and his wife together own 32 plots of agricultural land. In addition to this, Sangma’s wife owns as many as 33 more plots of land and a few coal mines.


The present market value of Sangma’s plot of land is Rs 2,23 crore while his wife’s lands are worth Rs 20.23 crore.
