Several incidents of intimidation and firing were reported from Manipur, where voting is underway for the first phase of Lok Sabha Elections.


On Friday, multiple videos were doing rounds on social media showing multiple incidents of firing and intimidation during polling at several booths in Manipur. In one of the videos, several rounds of firing could be heard near a polling booth while voters are seen frantically running away from the voting centre.

Congress leader Atul Londhe Patil shared the viral video claiming that while "firing is being done at polling booths, the Election Commission is sleeping."






The video is reportedly taken from the polling station at Thamanpokpi under Moirang Assembly segment in Manipur. The northeastern state, meanwhile, reported 63 percent voting till 3 pm. 


Following the firing incidents, several bullet shells were also found near the polling booth in Imphal during voting for Lok Sabha polls.






Police confirmed on Friday that several armed men fired several rounds in the air near a polling booth at Thamnapokpi under Moirang constituency in Bishnupur district. The incident led to voters fleeing the polling booth.


They added that additional security personnel have been rushed to the spot to contain the situation.


In a similar such incident, chaos erupted at the Eroisemba polling booth after Arambai Tenggol, a Manipur group, allegedly threatened that there could be no Congress agent at the polling booth, as per India Today Northeast.






Meanwhile, similar such incidents were reported at Uripok and Iroishemba in Imphal West district, where armed men asked agents of a party to leave the premises of polling stations.


Voting is underway in two seats of Manipur in the first phase- the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha seat, which comprises 32 of the 60 assembly segments in the state, and the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha seat,  with 15 assembly segments.
