Maharashtra Election Results 2024: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ashish Shelar has emerged victorious in the Vandre West Assembly constituency, defeating Congress candidate Asif Ahmed Zakaria by a margin of 19,931 votes in the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections.

Vandre West witnessed a voter turnout of 51.36 per cent during the polls held on November 20. Alongside Shelar and Zakaria, eight other candidates, including Aijaz Iqbal Qureshi from the Bahujan Samaj Party and three Independents, contested the seat.  


This General category seat, designated as constituency number 177, falls under the Mumbai North Central Lok Sabha constituency. Known for its competitive political landscape, Vandre West has been a battleground in recent elections.  


Shelar, a prominent figure in Mumbai politics, has represented Vandre West since 2014. He faced Zakaria in a closely contested race in 2019 and has now secured another term in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. In the 2019 elections, Shelar had won the seat with 74,816 votes, defeating Zakaria by a margin of 26,507 votes.

Maharashtra Election Results 2024


The 2024 elections witnessed a decisive BJP lead across Maharashtra. The party has won 24 seats and is leading in 106 others. Its allies, the Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), have bagged 15 and 14 seats respectively.  


Prominent BJP victories include Nitesh Rane, who retained the Kankavli seat in Sindhudurg district by 58,007 votes, and state assembly speaker Rahul Narwekar, who won the Colaba seat by a margin of 48,581 votes. Shivendraraje Bhonsle retained the Satara seat with a staggering margin of 1,42,124 votes, while Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil retained the Shirdi constituency with a lead of 70,282 votes.  


From the Shiv Sena, notable winners include Nilesh Rane, who secured victory in his constituency by 8,176 votes. State ministers Uday Samant and Deepak Kesarkar won the Ratnagiri and Sawantwadi constituencies by margins of 41,590 votes and 39,899 votes, respectively. The party has secured 15 seats and is leading in 39 others.  


The NCP, under Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s leadership, has claimed 14 seats and is leading in 27 more. Among its notable winners are Deputy Speaker Narhari Zirwal, who retained the Dindori constituency in Nashik district by 44,403 votes, and Aditi Tatkare, who emerged victorious in the Shrivardhan constituency in Raigad district by a margin of 82,798 votes.  


The counting process for the elections to the 288-member Maharashtra Legislative Assembly commenced at 8 am on the day of results.
