INDORE: Self-styled godman Computer Baba on Tuesday launched a campaign to unite seers against the "anti-religion" Shivraj Singh Chouhan government in the poll-bound Madhya Pradesh. Computer Baba, whose real name is Namdeo Das Tyagi, had resigned in October, six months after he was accorded the MoS status by the Shivraj government. He accused the chief minister of being "anti-religion" and not listening to his proposals on condition of cows and illegal mining at river Narmada.

The godman on Tuesday vowed to uproot the BJP government in the upcoming assembly elections. He said this while addressing a gathering of about 1000 seers from 13 Akharas (spiritual denominations) in Indore. "(CM) Shivraj Singh Chouhan had promised me that the Narmada river will be kept clean and illegal sand mining won't be allowed. But these promises were not kept. Now we have understood that the Shivraj government is anti-religion," PTI quoted Computer Baba as saying.

He reteriated his charges against the state government of "doing nothing" for the protection of cows and "destroying Hindu shrines, temples and dwellings of seers in the state". Many seers also attacked the state government on a string of issues including quota, construction of a Ram temple in Ayodhya, Vyapam scam and "rising spate" of crimes against minor girls, at the gathering.

"We are not supporting any party but are against this anti-religion government which should be uprooted in the forthcoming assembly elections," Computer Baba said. He announced to organise such gatherings in Gwalior, Khandwa, Rewa and Jabalpur in coming days, where sants from various parts of the country will be invited.

In March this year, the BJP government in MP accorded the MoS status to five Hindu religious leaders - Narmadanand Maharaj, Hariharanand Maharaj, Computer Baba, Bhayyu Maharaj and Pandit Yogendra Mahant.

Computer Baba and four other religious leaders, were appointed members of the 'Janjagrukta Abhiyan Samiti' (Public Awareness Campaign Committee)- set up for conservation of the Narmada river by the Madhya Pradesh government.

The opposition Congress had then dubbed the decision to appoint religious gurus as MoS as the BJP's attempt to exploit the respect these religious leaders enjoy in the society.
