Chennai: As the voting for the Lok Sabha elections began in Tamil Nadu on Thursday morning, Former Union Minister P. Chidambaram was one of the early voters in Tamil Nadu in the Sivaganga Lok Sabha constituency.

After casting his vote, the senior Congress leader told reporters: "It is a good day. I have voted for a change of government at the centre and in Tamil Nadu." He also requested the people to vote alike.

Chidambaram's son Karti P. Chidambaram is contesting from Sivaganga seat. He is fighting against BJP's National Secretary H. Raja.

Among star-voters, Actor-politician Rajinikanth also exercised his democratic right here at the polling booth in Stella Maris College.  Similarly, actor Ajith cast his vote at a polling booth near his residence in Thiruvanmiyur here.

The voting in Tamil Nadu is taking place in only one phase. The voting in Vellore was cancelled by the Election Commission after Rs 11 crore were seized by the officials ahead of the elections.

Even in Tripura, election was deferred on one seat for same reasons.

The counting of the votes in Tamil Nadu will take place on May 23.
