New Delhi: Violence broke out between Bharatiya Janta Party and Trinamool Congress workers at North 24 Pargana’s Mohanpur and Barrackpore constituency when BJP candidate Arjun Singh reached the booth.


The clashes broke out when Singh reached the polling booth. The clashes left Singh injured, and was seen bleeding from his lips. The clash broke out after Singh received information that BJP poll agent was removed from the polling booth by TMC workers.

Finally, the police had to intervene and keep both the party workers from fighting. Visuals of Arjun Singh confronting and agitating in front of the police officials could also be seen.

Arjun Singh is contesting against Trinamool Congress contestant Dinesh Trivedi.

The voting is underway for phase 5 of Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal.

Even in previous phase of polling, a similar incident took place after clashes broke out between supporters of TMC and BJP in Nanoor, Rampurhat, Nalhati and Suri areas of Birbhum seat, leaving several people injured.
In Barabani, BJP candidate from Asansol and Union minister minister Babul Supriyo's vehicle was vandalised allegedly by TMC workers outside a polling station while in Dubrajpur area central security forces personnel reportedly opened fire in the air to disperse irate people who attacked them when they were barred from entering the booths with mobile phones.
