Narendra Modi will be the caretaker Prime Minister of the country till the new government is formed as he reached Raj Bhawan to submit his resignation following the Lok Sabha results that came on Tuesday. 


Modi submitted his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday along with the Union Council of Ministers. The President accpeted the resignation and requested the Prime Minister and the Union Council of Ministers to continue in office till the formation of the new government. 


"The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, met the President today and tendered his resignation along with the Council of Ministers," a Rashtrapati Bhavan communique said. 


"The President has accepted the resignation and requested Shri Narendra Modi and the Council of Ministers to continue till the new Government assumes office," it added. 


Earlier in the day, the Union Cabinet recommended the dissolution of the 17th Lok Sabha, the term of which ends on June 16. 


The ruling National Democratic won the majority in the Lok Sabha elections on Tuesday.
