NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Thursday announced that the next meeting of Opposition parties would be held in Karnataka's Bengaluru on July 13 and 14 to firm up their strategy ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha election. Earlier, it was being speculated that the next Opposition meeting would happen in Shimla.
Addressing reporters in Mumbai, Pawar said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had become restless after the Opposition parties' meet in Patna.
"Manipur is burning but the Modi government is not taking any steps to control the situation," the NCP supremo further said.
Last week, the top leaders of as many as 15 Opposition parties gathered in Patna and after deliberations lasting over four hours, announced that they would fight the 2024 Lok Sabha polls together.
In a joint statement, the Opposition parties said they would fight the polls on a common agenda and state-wise strategy.
However, the meeting saw fissures between the AAP and Congress, with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal insisting Congress to clarify its stand on the Centre's ordinance that reversed the effect of Supreme Court verdict that gave the Delhi government power over administrative services.
A bill to replace the ordinance is likely to be tabled by the Centre during the upcoming Monsoon session of Parliament.
On Tuesday, Pawar hit out at Modi after the PM attacked Opposition leaders over corruption at a program in Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal.
Pawar said such remarks were made just because some people can not digest the fact that Opposition leaders came together to discuss the issues plaguing the country.
"Among those present at the Opposition's meeting were the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, several former chief ministers, who had the responsibility of governing their respective states and who enjoy people's support. How appropriate it is to make such statements about (one's) colleagues? The prime minister should think about it," PTI quoted Pawar as saying.
