As the first phase of the much-awaited Lok Sabha elections began today, voting will be held in eight constituencies of Uttar Pradesh including Muzaffarnagar, where a bride arrived at the polling booth to cast her vote, emphasizing the importance of voting.

When asked why she turned up on her wedding day to cast a vote she said, "It is the right of every citizen to cast their votes in elections."

She added that she hit the polling booth to extend support to her uncle. "I have come here to extend full support to my uncle," she added.

The bride cast her vote at the polling booth number 193-194 in UP's Muzzafarnagar.

Voting for the first phase of the elections in UP began on Friday at 7:00 am.

Muzzafarnagar holds a significant sway in India's political landscape and has witnessed intense political competition between the Bharatiya Janata Party, Rashtriya Lok Dal, Samajwadi Party, and Bahujan Samaj Party. Its voter base comprises around 18 percent of the total voter base. The constituency also has a 14 percent Dalit vote bank.

Previously, RLD was in alliance with SP and BSP in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and later with SP in the 2022 assembly polls. However, in 2024 Lok Sabha elections, it has aligned with the saffron party.

Besides Muzzafarnagar the other Lok Sabha seats where polling will be held today are Saharanpur GEN, Kairana GEN, Bijnor GEN, Nagina, Moradabad GEN, Rampur GEN, and Pilibhit.
