An FIR has been filed against senior Congress leader Charan Das Mahant under Section 506 in Chhattisgarh's Rajnandgaon district for allegedly making objectionable comments about Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a public rally earlier this week. The FIR was registered at Kotwali Police Station based on the complaint of the District Election Officer.
Following his objectionable remarks during the rally on April 2, the state BJP lodged a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer of Chhattisgarh against the senior Congress leader. In the complaint, the saffron party accused Mahant of inciting Congress workers and the public to commit violence against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Later, the former Speaker of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly in a video statement stated that he respects the prime minister, and that his statement was misinterpreted. He also expressed regret if anyone was hurt by his comments.
BJP Slams Congress MP Surjewala Over Remarks Against Hema Malini
Earlier this week, the Bharatiya Janata Party accused Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala of making "vile, sexist" remarks against BJP MP and actor Hema Malini.
The saffron party alleged that it showed how misogynictic the Congress party is and how it abhors women.
Amit Malviya, BJP's IT department head shared an 11 second clip on X in which the Congress MP can be heard making some objectionable remarks about the actor-politician while taking a jibe at the ruling party.
Following this, the National Commission for Women on April 4 (Thursday) took suo motu cognisance of the statement made by the Congress leader.
Surjewala hit back at the BJP stating that the party and its IT Cell has a habit of editing, distorting, and spreading fake news in order to distract public from Modi government's anti-farmer, anti-youth, and anti-poor policies.
