Political heavyweights from Narendra Modi to Akhilesh Yadav and Amit Shah to Rahul Gandhi made all the headlines during the Lok Sabha elections 2024, but there were some names that dared to fight against these heavyweights. While their candidature was overshadowed by their big contender's political might, they still managed to be on the nomination list. 


Congress's Sonal Patel — who is up against Bharatiya Janata Party strongman Amit Shah from Gandhinagar — and BJP's Dinesh Pratap Singh from Rahul Gandhi's stronghold Raebareli are all such Davids contesting against Goliaths. Here are some other names that who are in the fight against prominent leaders in the Lok Sabha elections 2024.


Varanasi: The Varanasi Lok Sabha seat has been the centre stage as Prime Minister Narendra Modi's bastion from where he is seeking a third term. While up against him is Congress's Ajay Rai from I.N.D.I.A bloc, who has been a three-time MLA, the others are not known on a macro level.


Kolisetty Shiva Kumar is another cnadidate from the seat against Modi whose politics revolves around cow protection. 


Bahujan Samaj Party's Ather Jamal Lari, Apna Dal, (Kameravadi) candidate Gagan Prakash Yadav and Independents Dinesh Kumar Yadav and Sanjay Kumar Tiwari are in the fray from Varanasi who will be testing their electoral fate against the political might of Modi. 


Gandhinagar: BJP stalwart Amit Shah has been re-nominated from this seat in a bid to continue the party's dominance in the region. In the fray against him is Congress candidate Sonal Patel. Mohammedanish Desai from Bahujan Samaj Party is another contender from this seat among others. 


Kannauj: Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh Yadav is contesting from this Yadav stronghold against whom is the sitting MP Subrat Pathak from BJP. Other candidates in fray are Imran Bin Zafar from BSP, Alok Verma from Rashtriya Shoshit Samaj Party, and Subhash Chandra from All India Forward Bloc. Seven Independents are also up against Akhilesh. 


Raebareli: Congress bigwig Rahul Gandhi is contesting from this Gandhi family fortress. Up against him is BJP's Dinesh Pratap Singh, Mo Mobin from Apna Dal (Kamerawadi), Sudarshan Ram from Bhartiya Panchsheel Party, Thakur Prasad Yadav from Bahujan Samaj Party , Hind Rohitash from Manavtawadi Samaj Party and an Independent candidate Hori Lal.
