With the first phase of the Lok Sabha election 2024 around the corner, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday addressed a public rally in Uttarakhand's Rishikesh, marking his second rally in the state since the poll bugle was sounded. Today's rally is targeted at three Lok Sabha seats in Uttarakhand's Garhwal region— Tehri Garhwal, Pauri Garhwal, and Haridwar. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was also present at the election rally.
Addressing the rally in Rishikesh, PM Modi said, "Today, there is a strong government in the country. Under this 'mazboot Modi sarkar, atankwaadiyon ko ghar mein ghus ke mara jata hai'. Whenever we have had a weak government in the country our enemies have taken advantage."
Training guns at the Congress, he stated that during the UPA's governance, the soldiers did not even have the necessary provisions such as bullet proof jackets.
“There was no proper arrangement to protect them from enemy bullets. It is the BJP which gave bulletproof jackets made in India to its soldiers, saving their lives. Today, everything from modern rifles to fighter planes and aircraft carriers is being made in the country itself,” he said.
He also criticised the grand old party for questioning the existence of Lord Ram and opposing the Ram Temple.
"Congress opposes both development and heritage. Congress has questioned the existence of Lord Rama, opposed the construction of the Ram temple, and made as many obstacles as possible. Despite this, those involved in the construction of the Ram temple forgave all the sins of Congress and invited them to the inauguration ceremony. But Congress also rejected that invitation," PM Modi said.
The prime minister also highlighted the work done by the government during his tenure and stated: "Today, there is a strong government under Modi in the country, so...Terrorists are killed by entering their homes. The tricolor of India becomes a guarantee of security in the battlefield. Article 370 was revoked from Jammu and Kashmir after 7 decades. A law was made against triple talaq. Women got 33% reservation in Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha. The poor of the general category also got 10% reservation."
The BJP women leaders were seen felicitating PM Modi when he arrived at the venue for the public rally.
While speaking at a public rally in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said, "The country has awakened, moved forward and changed now. The new India is vigilant and sensitive towards its future. Those who implemented 'Emergency' in the country, those who have divided the society into castes, and those who did many scams are rattled today because of PM Modi as the PM's mantra is 'na khaunga na khaane dunga'..."
Earlier, the prime minister had addressed a rally in Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh on April 2.
As per the poll schedule released by the Election Commission of India last month, elections in Uttarakhand and Tamil Nadu will be held in the first phase on April 19.
