New Delhi: With the Lok Sabha elections barely a few months away, Mothe Srilatha Shobhan Reddy, the deputy mayor of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), along with her husband Mothe Shobhan Reddy, who serves as the chief secretary of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi’s state labour wing, joined the Congress on Saturday, news agency ANI reported.

The decision was announced in a ceremony attended by AICC Telangana in-charge Deepa Dasmunsi.

Their decision to switch parties came days after their resignation from the BRS. This development comes close on the heels of the resignations of former GHMC mayor Bonthu Rammohan and former deputy mayor Baba Fasiuddin from the BRS, both of whom have aligned themselves with the Congress.

Citing profound dissatisfaction with recent decisions made within the BRS, the couple expressed that they felt deeply disheartened, which prompted them to switch over to the grand old party.

According to reports, they also highlighted that people who had actively advocated for Telangana statehood were facing significant challenges within the party, making it “difficult for them” to continue their affiliation.

As per reports, speculations over their switch were rife when the couple called on Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy at his residence in Jubilee Hills earlier this week. The couple has been reportedly miffed after the BRS denied them a ticket from the Malkajgiri seat in the Assembly elections held last year.

Their disenchantment became obvious when Srilatha failed to attend the emergency meeting of Corporators at Telangana Bhavan convened by BRS working president KT Rama Rao on February 10, according to reports.
