Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) candidate from Maharashtra's Baramati Lok Sabha seat, Supriya Sule said that the ongoing Lok Sabha polls are a contest between the UPA and NDA rather than a fight among a family.

Baramati, the Pawar family stronghold is set to test the loyalty of voters in the third phase of Lok Sabha polls on Tuesday as the Sule is set to take on her sister-in-law Sunetra Pawar, wife of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar who is the chief of Nationalist Congres Party.

On contest against Sunetra, Sule said the voters would poll their votes based on merit, during an interview with ABP News.

"This is a UPA vs NDA contest for me. In my opinion, this is not a family's but a country's election," she said.

"First comes country, party and then family. I have come into politics to serve the country. People should vote for me and Sunetra Pawar based on merit," she added.

Supriya Sule Attacks PM Modi

Launching a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sule said that he did not fulfil his promises, adding that "his statement after the two-phase elections shows this."

"I was surprised that he (Modi) had come for development, he said in the first one or two terms. Now his speeches have changed a lot because the promises made in the last ten years are not being fulfilled on the ground," she said.

"BJP makes a lot of claims. I have become used to hearing their claims. I have been watching the Modi government for 10 years. Inflation, unemployment and corruption are the three issues. There is a water problem in Maharashtra, this year there is drought," she added.

On Ajit Pawar, she said: "Ajit Pawar used to watch my election campaign. People have their minds and everyone has the right to make decisions in a democracy. Now it has been 9 months since Ajit Pawar left, leave this matter."
