Lok Sabha Elections 2024, Phase 4: A groom in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar constituency cast his vote on his wedding day, emphasising the importance of democracy and the right to vote in shaping the country's future.

Lok Sabha Elections 2024, Phase 4: In the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, a groom cast his vote on his wedding day in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar parliamentary constituency at the designated polling station. Since the abrogation of Article 370, it is the first major election polling for the Srinagar seat. Mohammad Ashraf, the Srinagar groom, who is garnering applause for exercising his right to vote, said, “I have cast my vote today because the constitution of India has given us the right, the right to vote.”

Understanding the importance of his voting rights, the vigilant groom spoke about employment and development. “It is the candidates whom we choose who run the country and frame laws, regarding employment or development,” he remarked.  

The groom has cast his vote at BHSS Kangan, Srinagar, according to the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal lauded him writing, "On his wedding day, groom Mohammad Ashraf added an extra touch of joy and happiness by casting his vote. He mixed his mehndi (henna) with the indelible ink, symbolizing his belief in a better future and his trust in democracy."

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Srinagar Constituency

Srinagar Lok Sabha Constituency recorded around 36.1 per cent voter turnout till 5 pm, according to the Chief Election Officer. As per the officials, the polling began at 7 am today.

The Srinagar Lok Sabha election registered the highest number of candidates in the time frame of the past 30 years as 24 candidates are contesting from the Srinagar Lok Sabha seat, including one woman candidate. 

A total of 17,47,810 lakh voters are registered in the constituency, 8,75,938 of which are male and 8,71,808 are female voters. 

Moreover, voter turnout in the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha polls in 96 seats across nine states was recorded to be 62.31 was registered till 5 pm. Notably, Jammu and Kashmir witnessed the lowest voter turnout at 35.75 per cent, while West Bengal recorded the highest with 75.66 per cent.

Apart from that, all the 175 assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh, including Visakhapatnam, Machilipatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur, Kurnool, Nellore, Tirupati, and Chittoor, have their polling today.
