Executive director of Dempo Industries, Pallavi Dempo has become the first woman in the poll history of BJP to contest the Lok Sabha seat on a party ticket. 


Dempo was declared a candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls from South Goa constituency in its latest list of 111 candidates. The seat is currently being represneted by Congress MP Francisco Sardinha.


The 49-year-old Goan entrepenuer and educationist holds a graduate degree in chemistry and a postgraduate degree in business management (MBA) from MIT, Pune, according to a PTI report. 


She oversees the media and real estate arm of Dempo Industries as executive director.

The Bharatiya Janata Party could win the South Goa seat only twice since 1962. Spread across 20 assembly segments, the South Goa seat has changed hands among Maharashtravadi Gomantak Party, United Goans Party, and Indian National Congress.


The saffron party won this seat in 1999 and 2004 but couldn't retain it. 


Pallavi Dempo's husband, Shrinivas Dempo is a noted industrialist and heads the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industries (GCCI), the PTI report added. 


Under the Rural School Adoption Programme, the Dempo family has adopted government high schools to provide vocational training to girls.

Pallavi Dempo is also the president of the Indo-German Educational and Cultural Society which contributes to the cultural enrichment between Germany and Goa and is a trustee of Moda Goa Foundation, a fashion and textile museum started by Wendell Rodricks.


She has also served as a member of the academic council affiliated with Goa University from 2012 to 2016, the PTI report added. 


The BJP candidate is also part of the managing committee of the Goa Cancer Society and also serves on the core committee of All India Management Association's Women's Council- AIMA Aspire.
