People in Ahmedabad witnessed a spectacular view on Monday night as drones lit up with a message for the voters to exercise their franchise as voting is scheduled in the city on May 7. The spectacular display of civic engagement involved 100 drones that took to the sky delivering crucial voting awareness messages.
The drone formations which showcased a map of Gujarat also conveyed "every vote counts" with concerted efforts by the district election administration and numerous private organisations that aim to encourage citizens to exercise their democratic rights.
Voting for the two Lok Sabha seats from the city, Ahmedabad East and Ahmedabad West will be held on May 7 in the third phase of Lok Sabha elections.
Sitting MP Hasmukhbhai Somabhai Patel has been renominated by the Bharatiya Janata Party in the Ahmedabad East Lok Sabha seat and will be in a contest with Congress candidate Rohan Gupta from the seat. In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Patel had defeated Gitaben Patel from Congress with a margin of 23,4330 votes.
In the Ahmedabad West Lok Sabha constituency, Dineshbhai Kodarbhai will be the BJP candidate who will contest against Bharat Makwana from Congress. The BJP will try to retain this seat as well which was won by Kirit P Solanki in 2019, defeating Raju Parmar of the Congress party by 32,1546 votes.
All the 25 Lok Sabha seats of Gujarat will undergo voting in one go during the third phase of polls on May 7, except the Surat constituency. The voting will not take place for Surat Lok Sabha seat as BJP candidate Mukesh Dalal was elected unopposed from the seat last week.
Dalal clinched the seat after the nomination of Congress candidate Nilesh Kumbhani was cancelled while other candidates withdrew from the fray.
