New Delhi: Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday hinted at contesting the Lok Sabha elections 2019 on Sunday. The Samajwadi Party chief was speaking at ABP News’ flagship summit Shikhar Sammelan, when he said that he may contest the upcoming elections from Azamgarh seat in Uttar Pradesh.
On being asked about his plans to contest the crucial polls, Akhilesh Yadav said, “if the people of Azamgarh will ask for it, I will contest the elections.”
Before Akhilesh’s statement, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had said from the same platform that BJP will register victory on Azamgarh and Amethi seats, this time. Adityanath had expressed confidence that BJP will win on more than 74 seats in the Lok Sabha polls and will clinch the Kairana, Amethi and Azamgarh seats as well.
Akhilesh’s father Mulayam Singh Yadav is the Member of Parliament from Azamgarh Lok Sabha constituency which is one of the 80 Lok Sabha constituencies in Uttar Pradesh.
Akhilesh also cleared that he is not in race to become the Prime Minister; rather his role will be in the making of the PM. He however denied being called a kingmaker and said that he will just extend his support to the process. He also claimed that the country will get a new Prime Minister in this election and the PM will be from Uttar Pradesh. He said, without revealing name that he has decided who he will support in becoming the PM.
He hailed Priyanka Gandhi’s entry in politics and said that her entry will brush off BJP in the state. However, likening Congress with BJP, he said that both parties are alike when it comes to misuse of the CBI.
He said that the people now want to get rid of the BJP government. He asserted that the SP and BSP alliance is the best step and said that he will keep supporting Mayawati in future also.
