New Delhi: The Samajwadi Party on Sunday declared that its party chief Akhilesh Yadav will contest the Lok Sabha elections from Azamgarh constituency, while former UP minister Azam Khan will contest from Rampur parliamentary constituency.
The major announcement came soon after the party declared its list of star campaigners for the forthcoming elections.
Akhilesh’s father Mulayam Singh Yadav is the Member of Parliament from Azamgarh Lok Sabha constituency which is one of the 80 Lok Sabha constituencies in Uttar Pradesh.
Recently in ABP News’ Shikhar Sammelan Akhilesh had hinted that he may contest the crucial Lok Sabha polls from Azamgarh.
On being asked about his plans to contest the parliamentary polls, Akhilesh Yadav said, “if the people of Azamgarh will ask for it, I will contest the elections.”
Former UP Minister Azam Khan who is among the founder members of samajwadi party and a member of the Seventeenth Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh will this time contest for Lok Sabha from his assembly bastion Rampur. He has been a member of the legislative assembly for nine terms from Rampur assembly constituency. BJP leader Naipal Singh became the MP from Rampur in 2014 elections.
At ABP New’ Shikhar Sammelan Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had that BJP will register victory on Azamgarh and Amethi seats, this time. Adityanath had expressed confidence that BJP will win on more than 74 seats in the Lok Sabha polls and will clinch the Kairana, Amethi and Azamgarh seats as well.
The party today released the list of its star campaigners also, which included the names of both Akhilesh and Azam Khan but did not include Mulayam Singh Yadav’s name.
