The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday said that it is all set to announce the Lok Sabha Election 2024 schedule tomorrow (March 16) at 3 pm in a press conference. The ECI issued a brief statement on X (formerly Twitter) announcing that dates for four Assembly elections, scheduled to take place around the same time, would also be announced.

Arunachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Sikkim are the four states expected to vote in April/May, while Maharashtra, Haryana, and Jharkhand will vote later this year.

The Lok Sabha elections will be announced at a press conference at 3 pm in New Delhi's Vigyan Bhavan. The poll body's social media platforms will stream the press conference live, according to the announcement.

It is to be noted that the development comes on the same day retired IAS officers Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu took charge as Election Commissioners.

Retired IAS officers took charge as Election Commissioners on Friday morning, less than 24 hours after being selected by a panel led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The announcement will also pave the way for a political battle between Prime Minister Narendra Modi's NDA government and the Congress-led INDIA bloc.

The Lok Sabha elections of 2019 were held in eight phases, beginning on April 11, 2019. The voting continued until August 5, 2019.
