NEW DELHI: A survey of senior journalists for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on Monday predicted a BJP wave in Madhya Pradesh and the Congress victory on most seats in Chhattisgarh. At least 120 local scribes -- 87 from Madhya Pradesh and 33 from Chhattisgarh -- were asked about their opinion based upon their coverage of elections. According to the survey, the BJP is projected to win 24 out of 29 seats in Madhya Pradesh and the Congress is likely to get the remaining five. The 24 Lok Sabha seats which the BJP may win are: Bhopal, Indore, Vidisha, Morena, Bhind, Sagar, Tikamgarh, Khajuraho, Satna, Jabalpur, Betul, Rewa, Sidhi, Shahdol, Mandla, Balaghat, Hoshangabad, Rajgarh, Dewas, Ujjain, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Khargone and Khandwa. The five constituencies where the Congress may reign supreme are: Chhindwara, Guna, Gwalior, Damoh and Dhar. Polling for Lok Sabha elections in Madhya Pradesh will be held in four phases during April 29--May 19 period. In the 2014 general elections, the BJP had won 27 of the total 29 seats except for Guna and Chhindwara constituencies, which were retained by Congress stalwarts Jyotiraditya Scindia and Kamal Nath, respectively. However, in 2018 Assembly elections, the Congress ended BJP's 15-year rule in Madhya Pradesh by winning 114 seats in the 230- member House. It later received the support of total 121 MLAs, including SP (1), BSP (2) as also of four Independents and formed the government. In Chhattisgarh, contrary to Madhya Pradesh, the survey suggested that the Congress will emerge victorious on eight seats while the BJP may only manage to win three. Chhattisgarh elects 11 members to the Lower House of the Parliament. The seats which are likely to be won by the Congress are: Durg, Kanker, Korba, Bastar, Janjgir, Mahasamund, Raipur and Raigarh. The BJP may retain Ambikapur, Bilaspur and Rajnandgaon. The saffron party had managed to win 10 out of 11 seats in the 2004, 2009 and 2014 Lok Sabha polls. Chhattisgarh will see polling in three phases on April 11, April 18 and April 23. The BJP received a massive drubbing in the 2018 Assembly polls in Chhattisgarh where it had been in power for three terms and the Congress wrested the state with a three-fourths majority of 68 seats out of 90.
