Eknath Shinde, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra and a Shiv Sena leader, will campaign for the BJP in the Karnataka assembly elections on May 10. PTI reported citing party sources, he will arrive in the state on Monday and take part in two BJP roadshows in Kapu and Udupi town.
Shinde will pay a visit to the Sri Manjunatha Swamy Temple before arriving in Udupi. He will then meet the Dharmadhikari of the Dharmasthala temple, Veerendra Hegde, they said. "Aisa nalayak beta baithega toh ghar kaise chalega (if the son is useless, how will the house be run)?" Priyank Kharge said.

Following the security breach during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's roadshow in the poll-bound Karnataka's Mysuru, police said that they have located the person who threw the phone on the vehicle and stated that the person had "no ill intentions" behind it. Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), law and Order, Alok Kumar said that the phone belonged to a Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) worker and PM Modi was under the protection of the Special Protection Group (SPG).
"The person who threw the phone on the vehicle of PM had no ill intention and was thrown in excitement. The Prime Minister was under the protection of SPG. The phone belongs to a BJP worker. We have traced the person, the phone was handed over to the person by the SPG," said Alok Kumar, as quoted by ANI.

The Congress on requested the Election Commission to bar Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath from campaigning for the May 10 assembly polls in Karnataka for their alleged statements against the minority community. Amid the high-decibel campaign for the ensuing Karnataka Assembly elections, Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday likened Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a "poisonous snake", drawing a sharp reaction from the BJP, which slammed the "slanderous" statement saying it reflected the "mentality" of the principal Opposition party in the state. Kharge, who made the remarks at Kalaburagi, later issued a clarification saying his remark wasn't directed at Prime Minister Modi but at the BJP and its "divisive" ideology.

Accusing the BJP government in Karnataka of rampant corruption, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra alleged on Tuesday Rs 1.5 lakh crore has been "looted" from the state. She also expressed confidence about Congress coming to power after May 10 Assembly polls in Karnataka and taking the state on the path of development.
"What is most sad is the 40 per cent government commission that was there in the state looted you. They looted you without any shame," Vadra said while targeting the ruling BJP in the state.
Seeking to highlight various alleged scams, contractors' committing suicide, and contractors association even writing a letter to the Prime Minister alleging scam, she said at a public meeting, "but there were no action, as many of those involved were associated with the BJP. " "You might have read about Rs 8 crore seized from the son of an MLA. Instead of investigating, the MLA carried out a parade. " "It is said Rs 1.5 lakh crore has been looted from Karnataka," she alleged, adding the money could have been used for a lot of developmental works in the state, which would have benefited the people.

BJP president JP Nadda on Monday accused former Karnataka of creating obstacles to the implementation of Central schemes pioneered by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the state.
The BJP national president made the remark while holding a roadshow at Sidlaghatta in Chikkaballapur district on Tuesday. "Governments of former CMs Siddaramaiah and HD Kumaraswamy created bottlenecks in a bid to stop implementation of the schemes of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre. Schemes like PM Yashasvi Scheme and Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi were stopped. Earlier, Siddaramaiah's government also did the same thing," said Nadda, as quoted by ANI.
Targeting Congress for extending support to the People's Front of India (PFI), Nadda said, "When Siddaramaiah was in power, they supported PFI goons and there was a palpable ambience of fear. However, in the light of strong evidence, the PFI was declared an anti-national organisation and was banned. Now, DK Shivakumar is saying that the Congress will uplift the ban on PFI if they are voted to power. Should such people be allowed to return to power?" the BJP national chief asked.
With Karnataka Assembly elections nearing, incumbent Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday said that he never imagined that he would become CM one day. While talking to the media persons in Bengaluru, he said, "I had never imagined becoming the CM, but the party's high command decided it. Now also, the party's high command will take a decision," as quoted by the news agency ANI.
CM Bommai was answering questions on whether he would return as the state's chief minister in the event of yet another term win for the BJP.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said that former Karnataka Chief Minister Jagdish Shettar, who recently left the BJP, "will lose the election" and asserted that Hubbali has always voted for BJP.
Shah said there will not be a loss for BJP. Shettar joined Congress after leaving BJP and is contesting from Hubballi- Dharwad-Central, a seat he has won multiple times. "There'll be no loss, Jagdish Shettar will himself lose election, Huballii has always voted for BJP & all workers of BJP are united," Shah said at a press conference, as quoted by the news agency ANI. He accused Congress of doing "appeasement politics".
"...Religion-based reservation is unconstitutional. Congress leaders are saying that they'll implement reservation for Muslims, but then, whose reservation will they reduce...," Shah said He also slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his remarks. "56 lakh farmers are getting Rs 10,000 every year under direct benefit transfers....does Rahul Gandhi think that these many farmers are of two-three families...," Shah said answering a query.
He said that the ruling BJP has worked for the all-round development of Karnataka and the Modi government gave 140 per cent more money to the state in five years in terms of tax devolution and grant-in-aid compared to the funds sent by the UPA government.
"During Manmohan Singh's government, Karnataka got about Rs 94,224 crore in terms of tax devolution and grant-in-aid between 2009 and 2014. The Modi government gave Rs 2,26,418 crore between 2014 to 2019. This is 140 per cent more than the money sent during Congress government," Shah said. He said the BJP government in the state created 55 lakh employment opportunities in the last about four years.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will arrive in poll-bound Karnataka on a two-day visit starting Sunday, where he will attend a series of events including visit to temples, interaction with people and address public, Congress party said on Saturday. According to his schedule, Gandhi will reach Hubballi at 10.30 AM and then he will fly to Kudala Sangama in Bagalkote by helicopter.
Kudala Sangama is an important pilgrimage of Lingayat sect, one the major dominant communities of Karnataka. The place has the Aikya Mantapa of the founder of the 12th century AD social reformer and the founder of Lingayat sect Basaveshwara. Senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar on Friday skipped a convention of his party’s Mumbai unit, raising eyebrows in political circles as speculation about his next political move refuses to die down. His name was also missing from the party's list of star campaigners for the Karnataka Assembly elections.
Speaking to reporters in Pune, Pawar said he was unable to attend the convention as it clashed with some other programs he had to attend, and nothing more should be read into it. The daylong meeting in Mumbai was addressed by party chief Sharad Pawar and senior leaders like Praful Patel, Jitendra Awhad, Supriya Sule, Chhagan Bhujbal and state NCP president Jayant Patil.
Talking about Ajit Pawar's absence from the meeting, NCP spokesperson Clyde Crasto said the event was planned a month ago.
“Ajit Pawar had accepted invitations to several programmes in Pune. He expressed his inability to attend. All leaders have their schedules to follow. Just because they are unable to attend one function, it does not mean they are planning to quit. He was present along with (Sharad) Pawar for an Iftar party earlier this week in Mumbai,” Crasto said.

"BJP is blackmailing the people of Karnataka. The double engine could not help during Covid, drought and any kind of problems. They are harassing West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and many other opposition govt states. We can sustain all these pressures," DK Shivakumar said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday held a telephonic conversation with Karnataka BJP leader and former minister KS Eshwarappa, who dropped out of electoral politics ahead of the upcoming State Assembly polls. After receiving PM Modi's call KS Eshwarappa said, "I didn't expect his (PM) call, it inspires me to win Shivamogga city and we'll try all possibilities to bring the BJP govt back in Karnataka. It’s not something special I have done. I have told the same to PM".
Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah on Friday will embark on a two-day visit to Karnataka and is set to take out a roadshow in Devanahalli on the outskirts of Bengaluru. The BJP leader will also take stock of the party's preparations for the May 10 Assembly elections in the state. This is Shah's first visit to the state after announcement of poll schedule on March 29.
According to his schedule of events, Shah will hold a roadshow in the taluk headquarters town of Devanahalli, the birthplace of 18th century Mysuru ruler Tipu Sultan, in Bengaluru Rural district in the afternoon. Shah would hold a meeting here with senior party functionaries regarding poll preparations in the evening, BJP sources said.
On Saturday, he is scheduled to attend an event organised by a private news channel before flying back to New Delhi. In Devanahalli, the Union minister will campaign for the BJP's Pilla Munishamappa, who is pitted against sitting JD(S) MLA L N Narayanaswamy and Congress candidate K H Muniyappa, a former Union minister and seven-time MP.
Over 3,600 candidates have filed a total of 5,102 nominations for the upcoming Assembly polls in Karnataka till April 20, the last day for filing of the papers, with the documents set to be scrutinised on Friday, election officials said. The process of filing nomination papers began on April 13 with the election notification being issued. Scrutiny of nominations will take place today, and the last day for the withdrawal of candidature is April 24.
Voting will be in a single phase across the state on May 10 and the counting of votes is scheduled for May 13. Of the total nominations, 4,710 were filed by 3,327 male candidates and 391 nominations were by 304 female candidates. One nomination has been filed by an "other gender" candidate, the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka said in a statement late on Thursday night.
It said 707 nominations were filed by candidates who identified themselves with the BJP, 651 Congress, 455 JD(S) and the rest from other smaller parties and Independents. According to the officials, one candidate may file up to four nominations. On Thursday, the sixth and last day for filing of the papers, 1,934 nominations were filed by 1,691 candidates, including several prominent leaders.
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday denied having made any decision by the party on the Lingayat chief minister and said that the meeting convened by senior BJP leader BS Yediyurappa was to take stock of the political situation in the state.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit poll-bound Karnataka for campaigning in the state assembly elections after the nomination process is completed, he said.
Addressing the media, CM Bommai said that no decision has been made regarding the Lingayat chief minister as the meeting of Lingayat leaders that was held under the leadership of former CM BS Yediyurappa to take stock of the current political situation in the State. "Leaders also gave suggestions on how to respond to the miscampaign being done by the Congress leaders and also regarding the Lingayat CM matter," he said.
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was also present in the meeting he said that he would convey the Karnataka leader's feelings to the Delhi leaders. "No decision has been taken regarding the announcement of the Lingayat CM", he said.
Highly upset by the exit of two top Lingayat leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party, former Karnataka chief minister BS Yediyurappa called a meeting of several MLAs belonging to the community to deliberate on the action plan as the state Assembly elections are less than a month from now, sources said.
The meeting comes after two senior leaders Jagadish Shettar and Laxman Savadi left the BJP as they were denied tickets by the party and joined Congress ahead of the elections.

The Congress on Wednesday tweeted a video clip of BJP chief J P Nadda's remarks in Karnataka, accusing him of "threatening" the voters and calling his comments a "blatant attack on democracy".
The Congress from its official Twitter handle tweeted a portion of the clip to hit out at the BJP.
"BJP President J P Nadda threatens to withhold constitutional rights from the people of Karnataka if they don't vote for the corrupt 40% BJP government," the Congress said in a tweet.
"This is a blatant attack on democracy and shows how the BJP plans to treat the Kannadigas," the party alleged.
"We are not subjects of a Raja but citizens of a federal country governed by the constitution," the Congress said.
JD(S) releases its third list of 59 candidates for the upcoming Karnataka elections. The party also announced support to Congress candidate Darshan Dhruvanarayan in Nanjanagudu constituency. Ayanur Manjunath, who resigned from BJP, is set to contest from Shivamogga central constituency.
Congress leader Jagadish Shettar files nomination from Hubli-Dharwad-Central Assembly constituency. He will face BJP candidate Mahesh Tenginkai in the election.
AIADMK to contest in the upcoming Karnataka elections. AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami announced D Anbarasan as the candidate from the Pulikeshi Nagar constituency.
Former MLA Anil Lad resigned from the Congress party. He was an aspirant for the Bellary City MLA ticket.
Lad met JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy late last night and joined JDS.
Former Congress MP B V Nayak has quit the party, after being denied a ticket to Devadurga constituency. Ticket has been given to his brother's wife.

ABP-Cvoter Karnataka Opinion Poll
According to the ABP News CVoter Opinion Poll, the Congress leads in projected vote share percentage at 40%, with a 2.0% increase. The BJP is expected to maintain its 36% vote share from the previous state assembly election. In terms of vote share, the regional party Janata Dal (Secular) led by HD Deve Gowda remains almost constant.
According to the ABP-CVoter poll, JDS will receive 16% of the vote, a significant decrease from their performance in the 2018 Karnataka assembly election.
Congress leader Siddaramaiah also seems to be ahead in the race as the most preferred chief minister candidate, according to an earlier ABP News-CVoter survey. Acoording to the previous survey, 39.1 per cent of voters would want to see former CM Siddaramaiah back on the post.
Incumbent Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai from the Bharatiya Janata Party came next in the list of most preferred CM candidates, with 31.1 per cent people voters ready to give him a chance to continue with a second term.
