Bengaluru (Karnataka): Congress MLA N.A. Haris's, whose son Mohammad Nalapad whose son had embarrassed the party for assaulting a youth at a city centre café, has won the Shanti Nagar seat.

As per reports, he reportedly defeated his rival K Vasudevamurthy of the BJP by over three thousand votes.

Haris’ son Md. Nalapad, who is still behind bars, had given the Opposition party candidates fodder for their campaigns who used the incident to attack the Congress for nurturing ‘goodnaism’.

The Muslim Congress leader has been MLA of the Central Bengaluru constituency since 2008 but was also facing an anti-incumbency factor against him. He had earlier tendered an apology in the state legislative assembly for the violent conduct of his son.

The BJP had fielded K Vasudeva Murthy, a former ward councilor, who had already lost to Haris from a JD(S) ticket in 2013 by around 20,000 votes. The JD(S) had fielded N R Sridhar Reddy who is reportedly emerging third in the race.
