Former Congress President and UPA Chair Sonia Gandhi launched a fierce attack against the BJP and Prime Minister Modi during her first electoral rally in the last four years in Hubballi, Karnataka. The senior politician responded to BJP President JP Nadda's 'PM Modi's blessing' comment by saying that the people of Karnataka do not require anyone's blessing. "The BJP is threatening people and saying if the BJP does not win in the state, it will not receive PM Modi's blessings," she stated.

Sonia Gandhi urged Karnataka voters to support the grand old party while criticising the current administration on a number of issues, including the 40% commission, Nandini milk, etc. Everyone must raise their voice against the BJP government's "dark rule," she urged.

Slamming BJP, Sonia Gandhi stated: "Neither Karnataka nor the country can progress till we get rid of the environment created by the BJP government with its loot, lies, arrogance and hatred."

In order to keep the "blessings" of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Nadda had urged the electorate of the state to ensure that his party was voted to power.

In response to Nadda's remark, the Rae Bareli MP stated that "the fate of leaders are determined by the common people and leaders cannot determine the fate of the public."

"I would like to tell the BJP that the people of Karnataka place their trust in their hard work, rather than relying on anyone's blessings," Sonia Gandhi said.

Sonia Gandhi chastised the ruling party for its 'authoritarian' tactics, reminding the crowd that her mother-in-law Indira Gandhi had gone to Chikmangalur to fight the Lok Sabha elections while the Janata Party was in control. Sonia also mentioned that she ran for her first Lok Sabha seat from Bellary in Karnataka, emphasising that the Gandhi family has a long history with the southern state.

In recent years, Sonia Gandhi has not participated in any state election campaigns.

The former Congress president held her last campaign rally in Rae Bareli, one of her parliamentary constituency, for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
