Peaceful Voting In Maoist Strongholds Despite Threats

For the first time, a polling station was set up in the Budha Pahad area in Garhwa district, allowing residents to vote in their own village. This area is considered a stronghold of extremists, but despite this there were long queues and peaceful polling in the segment.

Similarly, voters chose to cast ballots in the Manoharpur and Jaganathpur Assembly constituency of West Singhbhum district, despite calls of boycott and threat calls by extremists. Security forces also thwarted attempts to prevent voters from voting in Manoharpur constituency's Rabangada polling station and in Sonapi in Jaganathpur constituency.

Voters of Lakhaidih village in Potka constituency in East Singhbhum district, having 100% tribal population, voted at a polling station set up in their own village for the first time. Earlier, they had to travel to nearby village, which is nearly 25 kms from the main road and 4 kms away through dense forest and hilly route, to cast votes.

Earlier today, PM Modi had urged voters to cast ballots in Jharkhand's first phase. "Today is the first round of voting in Jharkhand assembly elections. I urge all voters to vote with full enthusiasm in this festival of democracy. On this occasion, my heartiest congratulations to all my young friends who are going to vote for the first time! Remember - first vote, then refreshment!," PM Modi wrote on X.

In the 2019 elections, the JMM secured 30 seats, the BJP won 25, and the JMM-led alliance with Congress and RJD won a majority with 47 seats.
