Haryana Exit Polls: The exit polls results for the high-octane Haryana assembly elections on Saturday, October 5, pointed to another disappointing electoral outing for the Chautala clan in the Jannayak Janta Party and the Indian National Lok Dal. The Chautala clan, once the most powerful family in Haryana, now lies in tatters. Over the last few elections, the divided Chautalas have been reduced to a faint shadow of the legacy of former Deputy PM Chaudhary Devi Lal.

This year, a total of eight Chautalas were in the electoral fray. Fighting the elections were Abhay Singh Chautala, Aditya Chautala, Sunaina Chautala, Arjun Chautala, Digvijay Chautala, Dushyant Chautala, Amit Sihag Chautala, and Ranjit Singh Chautala.

Amit Sihag Chautala from Dabwali. Amit Sihag is distantly related to the Chautala family. He is the great-grandson son of Tara Chand, who was Chaudhary Devi Lal's uncle. His father is Congress leader Kamalveer Singh and his grandfather is Ganpat Ram.

Chautalas Fighting As Independents

Ranjit Singh Chautala from Rania. Ranjit Singh who recently quit BJP after being denied the Rania ticket is fitting as an independent but is being supported by the JJP.

This means that out of the eight Chautalas a maximum of five can enter the Haryana Assembly.

Dushyant Chautala's JJP, which suffered a massive blow with the exodus of all its MLAs, except Dushyant and his mother Naina, right before the Haryana Assembly elections, was at the bottom according to pollsters. Abhay Chautala's INLD, too, was far behind, according to the exit polls.

Although the exit poll figures for individual seats are yet to be revealed, the Congress's Amit Sihag Chautala could emerge as the dark horse riding on the Congress's winnability this year. His distant cousins Aditya and Digvijay are contesting against him from the Dabwali seat from the INLD and JJP respectively.

Most of the major pollsters pointed towards a clear Congress win in Haryana, with the BJP coming in second. Going by the major pollsters the JJP is expected to win a maximum of three seats, but may even fail to open its account. On the other hand, INLD is projected to win at least one seat and its tally could go up to a maximum of 6.
