Haryana Assembly Election: After the BJP's bout with rebellions over ticket distribution, it's the Congress's turn. Right after the first list was declared by the Congress on Friday evening, its leader Rajesh Joon resigned from all party posts. Rajesh Joon will now contest as an independent from the Bahadurgarh seat.

Rajesh Joon said: "I was promised a ticket, but the promise was not kept. The Congress leadership cheated me. I shall become an MLA with double the votes raked in by the Congress Candidate." The Congress has fielded sitting MLA Rajinder Singh Joon from the Bahadurgarh seat.

A similar situation arose ahead of the 2019 Haryana Assembly polls as well when Rajesh Joon rebelled and filed his nomination as an independent candidate against Rajinder Singh Joon. However, former Haryana CM and senior Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda intervened and convinced him to withdraw his nomination then.

Rajesh Joon on Friday cited a 'survey', purportedly by a media agency, to support his claim. The 'survey' showed Rajesh Joon with 46% approval ratings against Rajinder Singh Joon's 38%.

Meanwhile, the Congress received a big boost on Friday when ace wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia joined the party. Vinesh will contest the Julana assembly seat, while Bajrang will be actively involved in the campaigning for the Congress.

The Haryana assembly election will be held in a single phase on October 5 and the results will be declared on October 8.
