New Delhi: All India Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi was shown black flags during his public meeting in Gujarat’s Surat, reported news agency ANI. Owaisi was holding a public rally ahead of Gujarat Assembly elections in Surat when some people chanted ‘Modi-Modi’ and showed black flags during the public meeting, reported the news agency.
Assembly polls in Gujarat will take place in two phases on December 1 and 5 and the votes will be counted on December 8 along with Himachal Pradesh.
Last month, Owaisi announced five candidates from his party that will contest the Gujarat Assembly elections. The party announced candidature of Shahnawazkhan Pathan from Bapunagar in Ahmedabad and Abdul Bashir Shaikh from Limbayat in Surat.
The party has also fielded its state chief Sabir Kabliwala, a former Congress MLA, from Jamalpur-Khadia in Ahmedabad, its Dalit candidate Kaushika Parmar from Danilimda (SC) seat and Wasim Qureshi from Surat-East.
Kabliwala had contested from Jamalpur-Khadia in 2012, as an Independent after he was denied a ticket by the Congress, which fielded Samirkahn Pathan.
Meanwhile the Congress on Sunday released two lists of 39 candidates ahead of the polls which included Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani who has been fielded from Vadgam seat.
Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani had won from Vadgam seat in Gujarat's Banaskantha district in 2017 as Independent candidate.
The candidates named in the fifth list were Jayanti Jerajbhai Patel from Morbi, Jivan Kumbharvadiya from Jamnagar Rural, Chhattarsinh Gunjariya from Dhrangadhra, Mansukhbhai Kalariya from Rajkot West and Divyesh Chavda from Gariadhar.
