The Governor on Thursday dismissed the West Bengal Cabinet after Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee refused to resign following her party’s defeat in the Assembly elections.
The decision came after the formal dissolution of the 2021-2026 West Bengal Legislative Assembly and was carried out in accordance with the constitutional process.
Mamata Calls Poll Verdict ‘A Conspiracy’
Addressing the media on Tuesday, Mamata Banerjee ruled out stepping down as chief minister and alleged that the election outcome was “not a mandate but a conspiracy.”
“There is no question of my resignation, because our defeat was not due to the public mandate, but a conspiracy. I have not lost, and I will not go to Lok Bhavan. The mandate was stolen in approximately 100 seats, and the vote count was deliberately slowed down to demoralize her party,” she said.
Banerjee also accused the Election Commission of working in favour of the BJP.
“We did not contest the elections against the BJP, but rather fought the Election Commission, which worked for the BJP,” she alleged.
Mamata Vows To Strengthen INDIA Alliance
Following the defeat, Mamata Banerjee said she would now focus on strengthening the opposition INDIA alliance at the national level.
“Leaders of the All India Alliance called me to express solidarity. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi also spoke to me,” she said.
She also vowed to continue her political fight on the streets.
