Goa Election Results 2022 Key Candidates: As the counting for assembly elections 2022 is set to begin at 8 am, the fate of 40 constituencies of Goa will be decided for the next five years.
As the results will be known soon, the ABP-CVoter exit polls had predicted 16 seats for Congress and its allies, while BJP seemed to bag 17 seats. On the other hand, AAP was predicted to bag only 1-5 seats.
Pramod Sawant | BJP
Pramod Sawant is the current CM and Bharatiya Janata Party’s CM candidate for Goa. He has contested the election from the Sanquelim constituency.
He started his political career in 2008 from Pale constituency and has been contesting from Sanquelim since 2012. He assumed office as the CM in 2019 when the former CM Manohar Parrikar died.
Amit Palekar | AAP
Amit Palekar is a first-time candidate as he launches his political career from AAP. He is a lawyer and social activist whose candidacy was declared by AAP in January 2022.
Palekar had contested the election from the St. Cruz constituency. He had gained fame during the Old Goa Heritage Complex issue when he sat on a hunger strike. Palekar has not been active in politics himself, but his mother has been the Sarpanch of Merces for 10 years.
Utpal Parrikar | Independent
Utpal Parrikar is son of former Goa CM late Manohar Parrikar. He contested the election as an independent from the Panjim constituency which was his father’s stronghold. Manohar Parrikar represented the seat from 1994 until his death. He is competing against BJP's Atanasio Monserratte who quit Congress in 2019 to join BJP.
Michael Lobo | Congress
Michael Lobo is Congress’ candidate from Calangute. He quit BJP a few days before elections were notified to join Congress. He has been a two-time winner from this constituency since 2012.
