After Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge's "no one has tea with me" remark, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said that "dogs have a higher value in the Congress party in comparison to humans," news agency ANI reported.

Speaking with ANI, Assam CM stated: "Mallikarjun Kharge said, no one has tea with me. So maybe Rahul Gandhi doesn't have tea with Kharge ji & Congress follows such practices. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi should tweet a backdated picture in which he could be seen having tea with Mallikarjun Kharge."

"What I feel is that dogs have a higher value in the Congress party in comparison to humans. So Mallikarjun Kharge's comment that no one has tea with me, this may be partially correct." he further said.

Earlier today, Kharge called Prime Minister Narendra Modi a "leader of lies" and accused him of seeking sympathy by claiming to be destitute. During a public rally in Dediapada, Gujarat's Narmada district, the senior Congress politician claimed to be from the "untouchable caste."

Slamming PM Modi, Kharge said: "A person like you (PM Modi) claims to be poor. I'm (Kharge) one of the untouchables. People drank your tea, nobody would've had my tea...If you say it for sympathy, people are smart. How many times will you lie? He's the leader of lies."

Kharge's statements came in the wake of the Bharatiya Janata Party's rally in Kheda on Sunday, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared himself to be a common man.

"Today, the Congress president is in Gujarat. He was sent here by Sonia Gandhi. He came here and said he will show Modi his aukat. I have no status, I was born as a common man. Let us see how he shows me my aukat," the prime minister had said.

Gujarat Polls 2022

Gujarat Assembly elections are set to be held in two stages on December 1 and 5, with results announced on December 8, which overlaps with the Himachal Pradesh polls.

In the 2017 Gujarat elections, the BJP was defeated in 99 of 182 seats. The BJP has been in power for the last 27 years, with Modi serving as the state's longest-standing chief minister.

This time, the party is aiming for more than 140 seats under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and CR Patil.

The state has always been a BJP stronghold, and the party has set its eyes on regaining power for a seventh time. From 2001 to 2014, PM Modi was Gujarat's longest-serving chief minister.
