Kanhaiya Kumar 'Reels' Row: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has replied to Kanhaiya Kumar's jibe about the BJP leader's wife Amruta Fadnavis making reels saying that he has been tolerating such comments for five years. The "reels" comment by Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar heated up the political arena on Thursday.
In an interaction with News 18 Lokmat Fadnavis said: "I have been tolerating these personal attacks for the last five years. The hate campaign that the Maha Vikas Aghadi has launched against me is nothing new. I have been the Home Minister for the past 2.5 years and I know who's running which campaign."
"They should be ashamed of themselves for launching these vile personal attacks on a woman. Truth can be harassed but not defeated. They only wanted to defeat Devendra Fadnavis. But I gained from this due to my track record. People understood that I was being targeted and sympathised with me," the Deputy CM said.
What Did Kanhaiya Kumar Say?
On Thursday, Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar took a dig at the Fadnavis couple of Maharashtra, saying that the responsibility of protecting dharm [religion] should rest upon everyone and not just the general public. Speaking at a public meeting in Maharashtra's Nagpur, he said: "When they speak about protecting dharm [religion], the responsibility should be taken up by everyone. It is not acceptable if we are protecting religion while Deputy Chief Minister's wife is busy making reels."
Fadnavis On 'Vote Jihad' Narrative
Devendra Fadnavis said that he speaks on development in most of his speeches. "As much as 95% of my speeches are based on development. The rest 5% is for replies. I counter the Hindu-Muslim narrative set by the Opposition," He said that the Congress supports the Ulema Council's demand to release Muslims accused of inciting riots in Maharashtra over the last decade. This is being done to set a Hindu-Muslim narrative, he said.
