Delhi Assembly Election Dates: The Delhi Assembly Election 2025 will be held in a single phase on February 5 and the results will be announced on February 8. The contest will be interesting in Delhi, owing to the Congress and the AAP, both allies at the national level, fighting on opposite sides. The contest is expected to be a three-corner fight between the Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party, and the Aam Aadmi Party.




Delhi Election 2025: Voter Demographics


Delhi has a total of 1.55 crore voters this year — 83.49 men, 71.74 women, and 1,261 transgenders. As many as 2.08 lakh first-time voters are eligible to cast their ballots.


Moreover, Delhi will have 1.09 lakh voters aged above 85 and there will be 830 centenarians eligible to vote.

'Nation Of 1 Billion Voters'


CEC Rajiv Kumar said as per the latest voter rolls, India has 99 crore electors. "India, for the first time, has crossed the 99-crore mark. India will soon become a nation of 1 billion voters," he said. He said the participation of women has also increased in India's election process.

CEC Addresses Voter Name Deletion And EVM Manipulation Claims


CEC Rajiv Kumar said there were 10.5 lakh polling booths with 45 lakh polling officials manning them last year. Referring to allegations of EVM manipulation, voter roll manipulations, etc, CEC Kumar said: "These officials are often at the receiving end of such allegations. They are pained by such claims as such misappropriation are not even possible."


Referring to the allegation of voter name deletion, Kumar said: "It is not possible to delete names of voters without informing the voter first and giving him/her time to respond in a personal hearing. Even all political parties are informed before such a move. It is an annual process and is fully transparent. Even if someone passes away, the death certificate of the deceased is attached before the name deletion."



Rajiv Kumar further pointed out that even the Supreme Court has said that EVM cannot be hacked. "The court said EVMs are tamper-proof and a foolproof way to count votes. There is no evidence of unreliability or drawback in EVM," he quoted an SC order.

Delhi Assembly Election 2020 Results


In 2020, the Aam Aadmi Party won a landslide victory in Delhi. AAP won 62 out of 70 seats here, while the BJP won only eight seats. On the other hand, the Congress was completely wiped out in the last election. Not a single Congress candidate could win.

The Delhi Assembly Election 2025 is being contested on several issues. The chief among them are safety from crimes, security of citizens, water supply, education, women empowerment, freebie politics involving water, electricity, ration, healthcare, commute, and financial inclusion of priests.


While the BJP has often ridiculed AAP for its "revdi politics", the saffron party has also promised freebies if they come to power..
