New Delhi: The West Bengal government refused to hold a review meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to assess the damage caused by severe cyclonic storm Fani in the coastal parts of the state, according to government sources.

PM Modi, who took stock of the damage caused in Odisha due to Cyclone Fani on Monday, said he wanted to review the situation for West Bengal. The PMO had even written to the state about the planned review meeting.

However, PMO sources said the Mamata Banerjee-led government has replied negatively, adding that officials in the state are busy with election duty.Earlier, a political blame game broke out between the Centre and West Bengal government over Cyclone Fani.

Mamata Banerjee's party Trinamool Congress countered Centre's claim that PM Modi had called Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik but he did not call the West Bengal CM to discuss rescue and rehabilitation operations.

The party further claimed that PM Modi only spoke to West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi about the post-Fani situation in the state. The Centre, however, rubbished the reports earlier.

PM Modi said on Saturday that he tried to contact Mamata Banerjee to discuss about Cyclone Fani but his calls were unanswered.
