Delhi Assembly Election 2025: For the upcoming Delhi assembly polls, Congress has made it clear that the grand old party will be contesting the elections alone. In a statement, Devender Yadav, the president of the Delhi Pradesh Congress, said, "We shall contest all 70 seats in Delhi.”

Yadav clarified that there would be no alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which is part of the Opposition's INDIA-bloc at the national level, or with any other political party for the Delhi Assembly elections.

Emphasising Congress’s intent to contest the full slate of seats in the Delhi Legislative Assembly elections, he also said the CM face will be decided after the polls. “After the elections, the leader will be chosen, as is customary in Congress,” he said.

Under a united banner, around 30 like-minded parties, both regional and national, joined forces to form a multi-party alliance called the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance, or INDIA. The main objective of this alliance was to become a strong opposition to the BJP-led NDA in the Lok Sabha elections.

Although there was a concerted effort during India's general elections in 2024, the subsequent state assembly elections have not shown the same level of enthusiasm among parties.

With Congress declaring their clear intent to contest all 70 Delhi assembly seats, it appears that after going alone in the Haryana assembly polls, the grand old party will once more not ally with AAP, their INDIA partner, during the Lok Sabha elections.

Although the date for the Delhi assembly elections has not been announced yet, since the tenure of the assembly will expire on February 15th, 2025, the dates are likely to be announced soon. The ruling AAP has already been in election mode for a while now, having announced their first list of candidates. AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal has also intensified his efforts for poll campaigning in the national capital.
